Who are our fellows, and what do they do?
CAGH is very fortunate to have highly qualified individuals from around the world who are willing to support it by sharing knowledge and expertise for mentoring students/associates working with us on projects. They are a valuable resource and collectively represent a repository of knowledge that is likely to be unmatched in India. We feel privileged to recognize them as fellows. CAGH fellows are not only experienced academicians but also researchers, inventors, business managers, entrepreneurs and authors. The following list, in alphabetical order will introduce you to our current fellows:
Katiyar, Sunil Kumar
Sunil is Professor in the Civil Engg. Deptt. at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT Bhopal). He holds B. Tech. (Civil Engg.) degree from Harcourt Butler Technological Institute (HBTI) Kanpur and M.Tech. & Ph.D. degrees from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. His area of expertise is Geomatics Engg. (Remote Sensing, Geographic Information System & Global Positioning System). His Ph.D. thesis was on “Geometric Correction of IRS-1C/D satellite Imagery” funded by ISRO-IITK Space Technology Cell. He has about 20 years of professional experience in teaching, research and consultancy. He has published about 50 research papers in national/international journals and conferences. His areas of interest include:
· Geometric rectification of remotely sensed images and satellite image navigation
· Geointelligence from high resolution images using artificial intelligence tools.
· Computer aided and remote sensing satellite based mapping and cartograph

Kymes, Steven
Steve is a senior researcher in health economics and outcomes research at Lundbeck Pharmaceuticals. He was formerly the Director, Center for Economic Evaluation in Medicine of Washington University, St. Louis, USA. Steve is a health outcomes researcher with a doctoral degree in health services research from Saint Louis University School of Public Health (2001). He is a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, with a joint appointment in the Division of Biostatistics. He also serves as a Senior Fellow in the Washington University Center for Health Policy and as an Institute Scholar in the Washington University Institute of Public Health. His research concerns methods of economic evaluation including microsimulation and assessment of preference based measures of quality of life. He has been the author or co-author of over 30 peer reviewed publications and has served as principal investigator of more than ten NIH and industry funded grants. He has served on severals NIH and CDC review panels and as a member of the Data and Safety Monitoring Committees for three National Eye Institute funded studies. Among Dr. Kymes' current research interests are the development of economic models for the progression of glaucoma, assessment of the impact of glaucoma progression on cost of care and quality of life; the development of economic models for evaluation of treatment of retina disease; evaluation of the cost-effectiveness of methods of stem cell mobilization in people with non-Hodgkins lymphoma; and economic evaluation of methods to avoid diagnostic error.
Palatty, Babu Urumese
Babu Palatty was Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine at St John’s Medical College, Bangalore, India and Medical Director of Indian Institute of Emergency Medical Services, Kottayam India. He took his basic medical degree from Calicut University and postgraduate degree in Internal Medicine from Sambalpur University. His particular area of expertise is in various forms of resuscitation involving basic and advanced life support. He is a certified faculty and instructor for the American College of Surgeons’ Advanced trauma life support (ATLS) program, the American Heart Association’s Basic and Advanced cardiac life support (BLS/ACLS) and Pediatric advanced life support (PALS) courses as well as the Prehospital International trauma life support (ITLS) course. He has been regional Faculty for Fellowship programs in Emergency Medicine conducted by Ronald Reagan Institute of Emergency Medicine - George Washington University, Washington DC. He is currently a consultant in Emergency Medicine based in Cochin and is closely involved in the provision and organization of charitable medical services as well as in the mentoring of junior emergency medicine clinicians.
Seelan, Santosh
Santhosh is Chair of the Space Studies Department at University of North Dakota (UND), Grand Forks, USA. He is also the Director of North Dakota Space Grant Consortium, and Director of North Dakota NASA EPSCoR, both statewide programs sponsored by NASA. He teaches global change and applied remote sensing, with particular reference to developing countries. His research interests include remote sensing applications to environmental change detection, natural resource management, precision farming and groundwater targeting.Before joining UND, Seelan worked as a Land Information Consultant with Terralink, a New Zealand government enterprise, creating a nationwide land cover database using SPOT, Landsat and IRS imagery. Prior to that, he worked with India's remote sensing program for 17 years, initially in applications development and later as Head of India's satellite data distribution center and Project Director, Indian Remote Sensing Satellite (IRS) data distribution. He has served on the IRS Mission Management Board, Remote Sensing Applications Mission Council of India, and the Prime Ministers Task Force on providing drinking water to the rural population of India. Seelan holds a Ph.D. degree in remote sensing (JNTU, Hyderabad), a Master’s degree in Applied Geology (IIT, Bombay), a post graduate diploma in Groundwater (Hebrew University, Jerusalem) and a certificate of training in remote sensing (Free University, Berlin). He has authored or co-authored over 150 articles, conference papers, technical reports, books, book chapters and abstracts.
Stahl, James
James is a board certified internist and practicing clinician at the Massachussetts General Hospital (MGH), Harvard Medical School, Boston. His work focuses on operations research, decision analysis, outcomes research, and industrial design and he has particular expertise in simulation modeling as applied to healthcare. He attended medical school at McGill University and completed a joint internal medicine residency between NSUH - Cornell Medical School and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He then completed a National Library of Medicine fellowship in Clinical Decision Making, Informatics and Telemedicine at New England Medical Center - Tufts University School of Medicine. While there, in addition to his training he worked on the clinical decision analysis consult service, developed and helped implement several internal hospital guidelines and decision support tools and helped develop and grow the international telemedicine program. He then went to University of Pittsburgh, where he worked in the area of liver allocation policy and completed his MPH at the Graduate School of Public Health and received the award for best health policy thesis. He is presently a senior scientist and Assistant Professor at MGH. His research interests include discrete-event simulation, operations research, decision analysis, meta-analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, utility assessment, game theory, market design, ethics in the context of limited medical resources and applying industrial design to problem solving in health care. His primary areas of research are health care system redesign and organ allocation policy and the role of new organ replacement technologies.
Vithayathil, Biju
Biju holds a B Tech in Instrumentation and Control Engg from the University of Calicut, Palghat and an MBA from IIM-Bangalore. He has worked with many large corporations in the public as well as in the private sectors: Xerox Corporation, BHEL – Industrial Systems Group, FACT – Petrochemicals Division, Crompton Greaves, Ion Exchange Finance Ltd, and Reliance Industries Ltd. He has taught in Rajagiri School of Management, DC school of Management, ICFAI Business School and Amity Global Business School. Biju has been involved with start up projects and has built businesses.
His specialization is kick start projects and then streamline their operations. This approach dates back to his days as an engineer where he was involved with the commissioning of the multi crore Caprolactum Plant. The saga continued in Crompton Greaves where he was key in building up an industrial lighting business for Crompton Greaves in Tamil Nadu. He joined Reliance Retail in 2006 and later became the business head of Reliance Fresh for Kerala. He opened up 30 stores and created challenging targets for operational parameters, many of which later became benchmarks for stores in the rest of India.
In 2009 he joined Amity University, and set up the business school at Kochi as it's first employee. In two years Amity Global Business School has grown into a student body of 150 with ambitious plans for the future. Biju also consults with leading business groups in Kerala and the Middle East, in areas related to desalination, pharmaceuticals and furniture retail.
